An anonymous narrator embarks on a fervent quest to obtain letters from the late Romantic poet Jeffrey Aspern, leading him to a dilapidated Venetian villa inhabited by the poet's former mistress and her elderly niece. As his obsession grows, he resorts to increasingly unethical actions to gain access to the coveted documents.
