Three women in different eras confront danger and witchcraft in this eerie multigenerational horror saga. Nana Alba often recounted tales of witches to her great-granddaughter Minerva, shaping her fascination with horror literature. Now a graduate student, Minerva is researching Beatrice Tremblay, an obscure author known for macabre tales. As she assembles her thesis, Minerva discovers that Tremblay's famous novel, The Vanishing, was inspired by true events from the Great Depression. Tremblay, who attended the same university as Minerva, became obsessed with her beautiful and mysterious roommate, who vanished under enigmatic circumstances. As Minerva delves deeper into Tremblay's manuscript, she feels a sinister presence reminiscent of the malign force that haunted Tremblay and the missing girl. These unsettling occurrences echo Nana Alba's stories of her girlhood in early 1900s Mexico, where she had a chilling encounter with a witch. Minerva suspects that the same dark shadow that plagued her great-grandmother and Beatrice Tremblay now threatens her in 1990s Massachusetts. The pursuit of an academic career can be grueling, but it may become deadly when witchcraft is involved.
