Woolf's most experimental work features six distinct characters—Bernard, Susan, Rhoda, Neville, Jinny, and Louis—who express their inner thoughts through soliloquies. The narrative is interspersed with nine third-person interludes that depict a coastal scene from sunrise to sunset. This structure allows Woolf to delve into themes of individuality, self, and community, as the characters collectively form a cohesive understanding of a silent central consciousness, with Percival as a pivotal yet voiceless presence.
