Viac o knihe

This is an unmodernised transcription of the sole authority for Shakespeare's Sonnets and 'A Louers Complaint', the Quarto published by George Eld for Thomas Thorpe in 1609. With the exception of long-s, replaced throughout by short-s because the unicode character for long-s is not correctly displayed in many browsers and e-readers, spelling and punctuation are unaltered ; and though ornaments are lost, drop-caps, medial capitalisation, and italics are retained. The TOC provides hyperlinks to all 154 sonnets, to 'A Louers Complaint', and to the (notorious) dedication. Although Q has various errors that editors rightly emend, modernised texts lose much that is valuable, including ambiguous or emphatic spelling, and impose their own readings of the often very compressed syntax. Most also separate the 154 sonnets from their pendant poem, 'A Louers Complaint', although there are other sonnet sequences that have just such a pendant. Some even rearrange the sonnets into an order the editor happens to prefer. But this is the text as Shakespeare himself saw it in the last seven years of his life.
