He played a key role in promoting press freedom and influenced Gandhi and the architects of modern India. Tagore composed hundreds of songs, including the national anthems of India and Bangladesh, which are still cherished today. His prolific literary output includes quality novels and essays, and this poetry collection features "Fireflies," one of his most renowned works, which earned him the distinction of being the first Asian Nobel Prize winner in Literature in 1913.
