Set in 1884, a sudden tornado devastates the three-masted schooner Castor off the Peruvian coast, leaving it in ruins. Captain Philip Horn navigates the chaos as the ship rolls helplessly in the sea. Among the passengers are Mrs. William Cliff, traveling to settle her late husband's affairs, and Miss Edna Markham, a school-teacher heading to an American seminary with her brother Ralph, who relies on her for his education. Their journey is fraught with peril, testing their resilience and determination amidst the storm's aftermath.
